Ingredients

  • 1 qt. water
  • ½ cup dried hibiscus flowers see post for purchasing source
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 each lime 1 for juicing into the drink itself, ½ for rimming the gasses, and the other half to make garnishes.
  • 1 each orange large, navel variety
  • 2 tsp. pink sea salt
  • 2 tsp. tajin seasoning blend see post for purchasing source

Equipment

  • 1 Saucepan at least one quart
  • 1 strainer
  • 1 measuring cups set ½ cup, ¼ cup, and 1 quart
  • 1 paper towel optional
  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • 2 small plates

Method

Hibiscus Tea
  1. Bring the water to a rapid boil in the saucepan.
  2. Turn off the heat and add hibiscus flowers.
  3. Allow to steep for 25 minutes.
  4. Strain tea into mixing bowl, discarding the spent flowers.
  5. Add sugar and stir well to combine.
Add Juice
  1. Cut citrus into halves for juicing.
  2. juice the lime and orange directly into the prepared hibiscus tea, reserving one lime for rimming the glasses, and making round slices for garnishes.
  3. Stir well with spoon to combine fully.
Garnishing
  1. Place salt and tajin onto a plate large enough for the tops of serving glasses, combining the seasonings well.
  2. Double over the paper towel to fit onto the surface of another, same sized, plate.
  3. Juice the half lime onto the paper towel to soak it.
  4. Place the rims of each glass onto the surface of the paper towel, moistening them.
  5. Repeat this process onto the plate with the seasonings, causing it to uniformly adhere to the rim of each glass.
  6. Add desired level of ice to each glass.
  7. Pour mocktail into each glass evenly.
  8. slice the remaining half of a lime into thin rounds, dropping one each into the glasses to float on top.
